March Madness

6 Mar

Week one of my 30 for 30 challenge is almost over and already I’m learning why it’s a challenge. With 30 pieces of clothing total, I have to stay on top of my laundry and making sure I have enough clothes! During the week it’s not so bad (minus the fact that I have 3 skirts and 3 dresses as a part of my wardrobe and the rainy, COLD weather lately), but on the weekend I have to use those 30 pieces which include mostly nicer work clothes and not my typical relaxed weekend fare.  No torn jeans, yoga pants, hoodies, etc. Which is fine, just an adjustment. :0) I have made it through the week without buying any new clothing, accessories, or shoes! I did buy some dishes on sale at Target but since they’re not part of my wardrobe it’s a legit, non-rule breaking purchase.

For non-fashion related news, report cards are due in a couple of weeks and I’m starting to madly compile student work for the conferences that will begin in the last week of March. I think they’ll go well, I don’t really anticipate problems with parents that I was a little wary of the first time around. School’s going well. This week we are getting ready to host the monthly awards assembly.  The second graders will be singing and putting on a short play.  Our theme of the assembly is supposed to be goals and the play doesn’t really connect all that well, but that’s fine with me. The kids are so excited and it will be really cute.

YL is going well, things have kinda settled into a routine and there’s not so much passive aggressive behavior.  In two weeks, I’m giving the message at the end of club. It’s the second time I’ve ever done it and I’m not really nervous but it’s two weeks away at this point. I essentially know what I’m going to talk about I just need to flesh ideas out a bit more.

And, for Spring Break it looks like I’m officially going to be heading to the east coast to visit Beth! Ahh! So excited! Boston here I come! It’ll be perfect timing too since my 30 -for-30 will have just ended and I can go back to shopping! (I know I have a small addiction with clothes) Okay, gotta get back to lesson planning and organizing the rest of my life!

Remix Day One

1 Mar

This rainy, blustery, and even sometimes snowy day was the setting for the first day of my 30 for 30 challenge. And while I feel great about the outfit I wore (black leggings, tan/white stripe Tee, ballet pink long cardi, grey boots, maroon knee socks, and a sparkly headband), let me just say that trying to take a full length photo with automatic timer of yourself is more than a little challenging. So I’m starting to rethink this whole I’ll post a photo everyday thing.  Definitely not happening today, I have a couple of attempts and maybe once I figure out the finer points I’ll start to post photos.

Anyway, it’s Tacky Prom at YL tonight, and I’ve got to go get tacky – and no in case you’re wondering, I am not using my 30 for 30 staples for Tacky Prom. I figure this is a special event and I need to pull out my finest-tacky-wear…that didn’t even make sense…well time’s a-ticking away! See ya!

Hot Off the Presses!

28 Feb

So, firstly it’s official, well as official as it can be at this point, but the parents are in the know and I am Portland Bound the summer of 2011! Super excited, nervous, you know all those big emotions that go with a life-changing-ish decision. A little worried about the ordeal of finding a job, getting an Oregon teaching license, finding a place to live. But super stoked about what’s around the corner!

Now as for some less groundbreaking news. My lovely sister posted on my Facebook wall with a link to this blog and a suggestion that I take place in the 30 for 30 Challenge. So I cruised around and checked things out and basically am now obsessed with this whole idea to shop in my closet instead of shopping elsewhere for clothes;  to really see what clothing it is that I have, and what I do or don’t need.

I am proudly taking part in this fashion challenge, which might be quite difficult seeing as how many clothes I have in my closet - narrowing it down to 30 was practically an all day process. And honestly, I feel a little bit sad for the clothes that will be hanging in my closet untouched for the next 30 days. I am also agreeing to not shop for clothing for a month, which will be a feat for me. :0)

To help keep myself accountable and to do my best to stay on task, I’ll upload pictures each day with the outfit I’ve remixed from the 30 items I’m styling out of my closet.  I’m excited and also a little leery about what the end of the 30 days outfits might look like…but I’ve never been one to shy away from something a little quirky.

I  already have several outfits put together for the first work week, and am hoping we won’t have snow, torrential rain, or freezing temperatures like we had last week that will make me want to ditch this whole plan in favor for my less fashionable but cozy winter clothes. So it’s onward and upward, here’s hoping for the best with Portland and my 30 for 30 Remix!
